Zoya was a very sick child. Her wealthy father called for assistance from all corners of Ussura. Then an old Tibesti woman offered to help and Zoya’s father, in his desperation, agreed to her help. When Zoya was made well again, her father thanked the woman and told the old woman to leave. Her cryptic response to him was, “I pray you guard this child well, for no other child of yours shall live to see its sixth year.”

Zoya has had eight siblings since, and all have died before they turned five. Her ninth sibling, her little sister, is now five. She has set out into the world to find the old Tibesti woman and ask her to lift this curse.

In her travels, she has made a few friends. They are not well-liked by society, and as a result, Zoya has gained a reputation as a scoundrel.

A wandering mystic has advised her that sometimes being in debt can be a good thing.
